Anchoring Ethical Technology (AI and Data) Usage in the Educational Practice / ETH-TECH

Erasmus+ / Cooperation partnerships in higher education (KA220-HED): 2024-1-IT02-KA220-HED-000255527. 2024-2027

The advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) and data analysis poses ethical and social challenges that require immediate attention, especially in the context of education. In search of an answer, the Anchoring Ethical Technology (AI and Data) Usage in the Educational Practice (ETH-TECH) project addresses these issues by promoting an ethical and critical approach to the use of these technologies within the training of future professionals in the world of education.

ETH-TECH aims to foster and cultivate conscious, critical and sustainable digital citizenship, capable of facing the challenges of a post-digital society. To this end, tools and resources will be provided to train teachers, students and organizations in the educational world in the responsible integration of AI and data in their daily lives.

Objective

The main objective of the project is to promote the ethical use of artificial intelligence and data in the training of future educators, aligning educational practices with ethical and sustainable principles established by the European Union.

Methodology

The project is being developed in Italy, Romania, Germany and Spain. In each country the same actions are being carried out:

  • An analysis will be made of the current curricula of future professionals in the world of education. During the process, focus groups will be applied with academics, students and experts in technological ethics to identify existing gaps.
  • Self-assessment tools (frameworks and checklists) will be created based on ethical principles defined by the EU. In addition, these will be tested and adjusted through pilot studies in different educational institutions.
  • The project will develop a set of open educational resources (OER) related to the use of AI and data from an ethical perspective. The OER will be validated through participatory sessions called “Educathons”, in which students, teachers, members of the technology industry and different stakeholders will participate.
