Plataformas digitales y corporaciones tecnológicas en la escuela

Octaedro / 2024

In the current process of digitalization, technology corporations and BigTech have gained ground in schools, which poses challenges to public administration and educational systems. These challenges are related to the need to guarantee digital literacy, access to knowledge, protection of children’s rights, gender equality and, in general, the well-being of the educational community.

To better understand this process, the edDIT project (Technological Corporations, Digital Educational Platforms and the Guarantee of Children’s Rights With a Gender Perspective) emerged, the main objective of which has been to explore and analyze the perceptions and opinions of experts and agents of the educational community, including education professionals, families and students, about the use of digital platforms in schools and their possible impacts on children’s rights.

Based on the evidence collected, six dimensions of the right to education and the protection of children in digital environments were identified. This book has been organized into eight chapters. After a first introductory chapter, the following six analyze the impact of the use of corporate digital platforms in public schools on each of the identified dimensions. The last chapter, in addition to presenting the main conclusions of the work, suggests some proposals aimed at the Public Administration, families, educational centers and technological corporations that provide these digital services.
