Educational transitions have a central role to explain the (re)production of social inequalities and represent a key role in understanding Premature School Leaving (PEL). The transition between compulsory and post-compulsory education is particularly relevant to understanding the educational trajectories of young people, because it is at this moment when, for the first time, they are faced with a “real choice” that leads them to have to choose between Baccalaureate or Vocational Training Cycles (CFGM).
The aim of this book is to analyze how these transitions are shaped, exploring the multiple inequalities of a social, institutional and relational nature that traverse and condition them. This analysis is based on the voices of young people who are studying the first year of Baccalaureate and CFGM. Putting their experiences at the center helps to understand the complexity of educational choices and the intrinsically emotional, situated and relational dimension of educational practice and experience. As a whole, the book offers key analytical elements to deploy educational policies at system, center and teacher level aimed at achieving the schooling horizon of all students up to the age of eighteen.
